BakAdemy was created

The coronavirus pandemic broke out in March 2020 and we had to close the two Vollpension intergenerational cafés for the time being. One big question remained for us: how can we secure the jobs of our 45 senior citizens while our cafés remain closed? It quickly becameclear that there will be no support from the state for working pensioners.

 

As a first emergency measure, we drummed up friends, entrepreneurs and creatives and asked for advice. From these rounds, the ‘Oma Innovation Labs’ emerged, where all brains are put together to look for a solution for Vollpension. After several rounds, one big idea remains: online baking courses with our senior citizens.

 

The OMAsterclasses are created

Without further ado, the studio - where Vollpension's first pop-up café took place in 2012 - is rented and a complete film studio for online baking courses is created. With great attention to detail, we produce three digital OMAsterclasses on the topics of Viennese pastries, vegan baking and Christmas cookies. More than 12 hours of high-quality video content and a streaming platform are created in just 6 months. On 1 October 2020, the BakAdemy- and grandma - goes online.

Baking with grandma on the internet

Our online live baking courses in the studio and in our grandmothers' kitchens are starting at the same time. You can bake Sachertorte, Gugelhupf and more live at home via Zoom under the virtual guidance of our baking seniors.

We are opening the world's first grandma baking school!

After the pandemic had calmed down again, we still wanted to continue the baking courses - but this time really live!
So we founded the world's first grandma baking school in our baking studio in Vienna. Since spring 2022, you can attend baking courses with your grandma in our studio on Mariahilferstraße, prepare various pastries in the baking course and proudly take them home to your loved ones.
